The Operational Health Project Manager will collaborate with the Operational Health Associate Director to proactively identify and mitigate risks in the operational performance of the Americas Study and Site Operations (SSO). Partnering across Global Clinical Operations (GCO), this role aims to optimize portfolio health to ensure efficient trial delivery. Key responsibilities include developing and implementing data-driven strategies to predict performance trends and minimize risks across various SSO functions.

The ideal location for this role is East Hanover but remote work may be possible (there may be some restrictions based on legal entity). Please note that this role would not provide relocation as a result. If associate is remote, all home office expenses and any travel/lodging to specific East Hanover for periodic live meetings will be at the employee’s expense. The expectation of working hours and travel (domestic and/or international) will be defined by the hiring manager.

About the Role

Key Responsibilities:

  • Produce detailed reports on SSO performance and key performance indicators (KPIs) for both Hub and Country roles, in collaboration with the Operational Health Associate Director. Develop mitigation strategies for identified issues and proactive plans to foresee and prevent performance challenges across SSO functions.
  • Identify and communicate key business insights, trends, and benchmarks relevant to the Americas trials/portfolio. Support the Operational Health Associate Director in addressing data gaps and quality issues that could impact the integrity of reports.
  • Serve as the business owner for Americas’ Hub reporting, ensuring quality control of report functionality and pursuing continuous improvement through enhanced processes and customer-defined enhancements.
  • Liaise with Hub Portfolio Heads and other senior leaders across Hubs, Countries, and Clusters to drive Operational Health initiatives and develop metrics and KPIs for trial execution.
  • Assist the SSO Operational Health Associate Director in organizing and managing SSO Operational Health meetings at the Hub level, including scheduling, agenda preparation, decision tracking, follow-ups, and communications with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Coordinate and present systematic, key reports to senior leadership on a regular basis.
  • Align with other SSO Project Managers on organizational processes and best practices to ensure optimal performance, identify opportunities, and foster collaboration with other relevant functions.
  • Serve as the business lead on IT projects focused on automating reports or developing tools to drive process improvement as needed. Act as a subject matter expert on current and future reporting systems and dashboards.

Role Requirements:

  • BA/BS degree in Life Science, Computer Sciences, Business, Statistics, Finance or Operations related field 
  • 3+ years of experience in pharmaceutical development, preferably in Clinical Research
  • Planning/execution or project management a plus
  • Experience using Business Intelligence software, preferably Power BI
  • Experience with 1 or more programming languages i.e. Python, SQL, etc.
  • Proven business and data analytic skills
  • Experience in performance management and productivity projects (incl. application of quantitative approaches to redesigning processes, improving productivity and/or improving efficiency)
  • Understanding of the international aspects of drug development process incl. international standards (GCP/ICH), health authorities (FDA/EMA), local/National Health Authorities regulations.
  • Excellent strategic thinking skills, ability to manage multiple projects, flexibility to quickly adapt priorities according to business and strategic needs
  • Strong communication, presentation and networking skills

Novartis Compensation and Benefit Summary: The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $119,700 and $222,300/year; however, while salary ranges are effective from 1/1/25 through 12/31/25, fluctuations in the job market may necessitate adjustments to pay ranges during this period.  Further, final pay determinations will depend on various factors, including, but not limited to geographical location, experience level, knowledge, skills, and abilities. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus, restricted stock units, and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
